RESONANCE OF DREAMS / Ballet Kiel
Thinking the impossible, venturing into new spaces, exploring the unknown, allowing utopias, overriding laws, questioning boundaries - dance and modern dance in particular can do all of this. In order to show this wealth of the international dance scene, the Ballet Kiel repeatedly invites renowned choreographers to perform works of their own with the Kiel ensemble. The »Flight of Fancy« evening continues this tradition and invites you to a high-altitude flight full of fantasy. The Dutch choreographer Wubkje Kuindersma will perform the first part of the double evening with her piece »Resonance of Dreams«, which she created especially for the Kiel Ballet. Her choreography plays with the idea that there is a world of the physical body on one side and a world of dreams on the other, taking the viewer on a journey of the soul from one world to the other. The musical basis is formed by works by the two contemporary Latvian composers Georgs Pelēcis and Pēteris Vasks as well as by Alfred Schnittke and Friedrich Heinrich Kern. Kuindersma's piece is complemented by the choreography "Walking Mad" by the Swedish choreographer Johan Inger, which premiered in 2001 at the Nederlands Dans Theater and has since been seen on numerous major stages. Based on Maurice Ravel's »Bolero« and Arvo Pärt's »Für Alina«, an initially cheerful relationship drama unfolds, depicting the adventures of three women and their relationships to themselves and to the men in their lives. The only requisite is a large, surprisingly changeable wall. Premiere: March 25, 2023 |
Reviews
..."As if the pictures appear casually, the ensemble shines once again with stupendous versatility and great openness to new forms. They emerge as if from another world, bright figures, sometimes mixed up in a flat manner, sometimes frozen in a rigid front like opponents - until everyone meets again dissolve in the airy togetherness. (...)
All styles have a place in Wubkje Kuindersma's dance, the set pieces piece together to form a wondrous unity; harmonious neo-classic, down-to-earth modern dance, casually ironic show posing. (...) And in between, Marina Kadyrkulova, splendidly shimmering between tension and calm, works as a magical winged creature with sluggish steps towards the revolving stage. Everything is possible in these deeply light dream images, in whose abstractness nevertheless an eternal, universally human quest appears."....
